Kusum Sarovar: Pious pond amidst divinity
Kusum Sarovar is a huge tank, which belongs to the period of Lord Krishna, located between Govardhan and Radha Kund and lies at a distance of 28 km from Mathura. Kusum Sarovar lies towards the right side of sacred Govardhan parikrama path nearly one and a half mile from Radha Kund.
Appealing beauty:
Filled with emerald green water, Kusum Sarovar ghat is a deep reservoir that is believed to be the place where Shri Radhaji along with her friends used to come to collect flowers. The real intent of collecting flowers from there was actually to meet Lord Krishna with whom she would have love-quarrels and sarcastic exchanges. According to legends, once while collecting flowers, Radhaji’s saree got stuck in thorns and after knowing this Krishna went to help Radha rani disguised as the gardener and took out her stuck saree from the thorns. Kusum Sarovar temple, as the name suggests, is a place surrounded by a variety of flowers namely chameli ,champa, juhi, mallika. There are numerous Kadamb trees in the area on which the mischievous Krishna used to play hide and seek with his friends. Kusum sarovar was known as Suman sarovar during the times of Lord Chaitanya, a great devotee of Lord Krishna.

Kusum Sarovar in Govardhan is set against a milieu of exotic palatial buildings made of sandstone. Kusum Sarovar ghat is 450 feet long and 60 feet deep tank and is marked by a flight of stairs fringing the lake on all sides. Travelers from across the world visit the place to explore the Kusum Sarovar history of construction and restructuring. The Sarovar has beautiful Rajasthani architecture etched with awe-inspiring workmanship. The pond was originally a very simple structure; the magnificent aesthetics that we see today is the result of renovation done on the orders of the King Veer Singh from Bundelkhand, Madhya Pradesh in 1735. Suraj Mal reconstructed a garden around for his queen after sometime and converted it into a beautiful place. The Kusum Sarovar is surrounded by splendid sandstone edifices in the soulful Goverdhan which were constructed by the king of Bharatpur Jawahar Singh in the middle of 18th century. These glorious groups of buildings were erected in the memory and in honor of his father Raja Suraj Mal.
