The Lord is born:
According to the legends, Krishna Janm Bhoomi, as the name connotes is the place where Lord of Brij, Kanha was born. He is the reincarnation of the supreme almighty, Lord Vishnu and was born as the eighth son of Devaki- Vasudev. During the atrocities of Kansa, the then ruler of Mathura, who was adamant on killing all the sons of Devaki, Krishna was born in the prison, during the imprisonment of his parents. It is said that the Shri Krishna Janm Bhoomi is that jail, where Krishna was born.
Krishna Janm Bhoomi is a historically eminent place as well. It is said that the temple has been rebuilt 17 times. During the reign of Aurangzeb, the Mughal ruler, the temple was demolished and a mosque was built on it. The present Krishna Janm Bhoomi Temple is not very old and was built in the mid 1900’s. Despite the novel construction, it is the benign spirituality associated with Krishna’s birth here, that makes the temple the most prominent in Mathura. Krishna Janmashtami is the most famous festival celebrated in this temple.
